The PID Forum arose from the FREYA project. One of its spiritual successors is the FAIRCORE4EOSC project, which is developing nine new European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) components aimed at addressing gaps identified in the Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA) and to improve the discoverability and interoperability of an increased amount of research outputs.
One of these components includes a PID Knowledge Base (KB). This KB will support all members of the PID community by providing a searchable and filterable database of up-to-date and fine-grained information about the PID landscape. Initially, the database has been populated by scraping publicly available information. To verify the accuracy of this information, we are asking PID users and managers to help us by completing the following survey. Doing so will give you the option to “taking ownership” of the publicly available information. When the KB is made available as a service, PID service providers and users will also be able to directly refer to the KB for up-to-date information on the service.
The adoption of PIDs is a “socio-technical” problem, and trust in these systems remains one of the big obstacles to higher uptake. Populating this KB will increase trust in this system to a broader public by creating a source of reliable, up-to-date information on the PID services and their usage.
We hope you consider filling out the survey to the best of your ability.
