Is there a PID for patents (standardised format for patent numbers, copyright licenses). If not, is it something worth considering ?

At Crossref we’ve done a bit of work with Cambia/The Lens in the past: https://www.lens.org/. We haven’t got as far as PIDs for patents although I do know that there has been interest in this from some of our members (IEEE, ACM etc.)
We also get a feed of citations to patents in Event Data from The Lens (https://www.eventdata.crossref.org/guide/data/about-the-data/#sources-and-agents), although I don’t think we’ve had an updated feed of data from The Lens in some time.
Sorry nothing more concrete at this point but there is interest!

Apologies for the late reply. I have not been able to discover anything new with regards to PID for patents. The issue seems that different countries all have different ways of issuing patents, which makes it difficult.
