Domain repositories build strong communities of individual and organizational contributors that make multipl data contributions to the repository and publish papers based on data in the repository. Individual and organizational identifiers (ORCIDs and RORs) in these communities are “high value” because each identifier is used multiple times. The UNAVCO dataset repository at DataCite is used as an example to demonstrate ideas and techniques for identifier discovery and adoption in DataCite and Crossref metadata. Applying these techniques increased the % of records with ORCIDs from 6.6 to 56.5% and RORs were found for 48.6% of the records. Blog or PDF.
