Assigning DOIs to documents stored externally

An academic has asked me, the university repository manager, to assign DOIs to a series of conference proceedings he has compiled and published on Issuu. My university has an account with Issuu, but obviously we don’t have control over what Issuu may choose to do with the documents on their platform in the future.

It seems to me that the best thing to do is to upload the PDFs of the conference proceedings to our institutional repository, and create the DOIs based on those URLs. I would also link to Issuu from that record.

I just wanted a second (and third, and fourth) opinion on this as I am new to minting DOIs.

Thanks!

Hi @barlowjk, I would upload to your institutional repository and link that URL to the DOI. The link to Issuu could just be added to the description
